Rockwell Diamonds Sells 7.32 Carat Pink Diamond

High carat weight diamonds are very rare to come across. They are even rarer when they feature a color other than white. So when a rare pink high carat diamond was found flawless and intense in color, a record breaking sale occurred. The 7.32 carat flawless pink diamond according to Rockwell Diamonds has been sold for just over $1 million. Breaking the numbers down on this extraordinary stone shows that Rockwell Diamonds received 145,000 dollars per carat.

As stated before, pink diamonds are considered to be very rare in the diamond industry. This particular diamond hails from the Hoplan operation in the Northern Cape instead of Argyle Mine in Western Australia where a majority of the pink diamonds in the diamond industry comes from. The diamond has created much excitement for the President of Rockwell Diamonds, John Bristow. John Bristow believes that this find is just proof that there are more rich diamond deposits that will also soon be discovered from the Hoplan operation.

The 7.28 rare pink diamonds is a record high sale for Rockwell Diamonds which was just recently acquired 51% of its ownership back in early 2007. Rockwell Diamonds has taken a different approach to mining their diamonds in the alluvial material that is referred to as Rooikoppie as opposed to mining deep within mines which is the normal method of diamond mining. In the future it is quite possible that more diamond news will be seen from Rockwell Diamonds since their plans include continuing to acquire near production operations or operations that are already in production in alluvial diamond mining.
