People have been wearing diamond earrings, rings, and necklaces for hundreds of years however recently diamonds have started to be incorporated into the clothing creating some amazing and incredibly expensive wardrobes.

One of the most famous diamond dresses was worn by Maria Menounos. The custom one of a kind dress was worth a reported 2.5 million dollars. She wore the dress as a correspondent for Entertainment Tonight doing interviews on the red carpet at the 2004 Oscars.

While Maria’s dress is expensive it’s not the most expensive, recently Appleby’s created a special dress fro the Powers Whiskey Irish Grand National. The dress was created by designer Thomas Heverin of Sligo who spent over 200 hours hand sewing each of the 4,000 diamonds to the gossamer material. The dress was worn by Tanya Alvarez specifically for the event. The Dress has an estimated value of over 4 million dollars

Diamonds are limited to just dresses, high end shoe designer Stuart Weitzman had his own diamond unveiling at the Oscars in 2004. The stiletto style sandal has a 4.5 inch heel and is covered with over 500 diamonds. The shoes also featured the rare amaretto colored diamond which is over 5 carats. The shoes were worn by Alison Krauss who performed her Oscar nominated song “Scarlet Tide” that evening. These pair of shoes were valued at over 2 million dollars.

Now what does every woman need to complete an outfit the perfect purse. Luxury Shoe designer Taryn Rose teamed up with Lazare Kaplan to create a diamond purse. The purse featured 326 ideal cut diamonds in a platinum setting. The diamonds were 10 carats in weight and valued at over $49,000 which seems quite reasonable by comparison.

Diamond clothing isn’t limited strictly to outer wear in fact Victoria’s Secret has been producing diamond under garments for years. The Diamond Fantasy Bra has been worn by super models such as Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum, and Karolina Kurkova shown on the left. This years model features 2,900 pave set diamonds, 22 rubies and Mouawad Splendor Diamond a 101 carat flawless pear cut shape. It took over 300 hours to create and is valued at over 12 million dollars.

The record for the most expensive diamond ever worn isn’t held by a super model, or actress but by comedian Whoopi Goldberg. During the 1999 Oscars she apperead as Queen Elizabeth I as tribute to the movie Shakespeare in Love. She wore a dress from Harry Winston valued at over 40 million dollars. This outfit is currently on record as the most expensive outfit ever worn.
