Is amber really a gemstone? Yes it is but it is a fossil resin as well. Now it is used in many pieces of jewelry and makes a great piece of fashion jewelry. People love amber because of its beautiful color. They also love it because it doesn’t cost as much as other precious stones and Diamonds. Amber is great to because it can be just the amber and sometimes it can have things trapped inside of it such as a butterfly. Amber is typically a gold yellow color but it does come in colors such as red, white, blue, brown, and green. The color depends on the kind of tree the resin comes from. Amber jewelry started in ancient Greece and is one of the first stones used for decorated purposes. Old scholars were amazed that it carries a negative electrical charge. The people who did not understand this gave birth to superstitions and myths regarding the stone. It was considered the biggest source of resin near the Baltic Sea and was thought to been around since Neolithic times.
