Zimbabwe’s River Ranch Diamond Mine cleared of illegal diamond trade
The WDC has now took back what they had said about the River Ranch Diamond Mine and this is leading to suspicion and doubt about the authenticity of it source. In December of last year it was said that all diamond importing countries of the Kimberly Process were to inspect their parcels coming from Southern Africa. This was to be sure that no Zimbabwean production showed up. The WDC took the action following such reports that rough diamonds from the River Ranch mine were possibly being smuggled illegally into South Africa. Zimbabwe’s diamonds were blacklisted without any prior investigations to assess the situation.
The River Ranch with its legal consultant wrote to the WDC to express their dismay at the WDC’s lack of professionalism of the allegations made about them smuggling diamonds to South Africa. The River Ranch authorities have strongly denied the allegations of diamond smuggling. They said that they have not exported any diamonds since they resumed production in June of last year and when they do start it will be done legally in full compliance of the KPCS. River Ranch’s legal consultant says that it is clear the allegations are meant to tarnish their name and are a fabrication by there rivals.
