The Magic of Diamonds
Diamonds have always been considered somewhat magical. Long before they became the penultimate symbol for love, they were widely believed to have protective and magical properties. In the Middle Ages, royalty used to embed diamonds in their leather breastplates to help protect them in battle since it was known that they were basically indestructible. Thus, the wearer of these breastplates was associated with having magical, protective, and indestructible qualities. This afforded royalty a form of protection whether indeed it truly was magical or more psychological.
In some magical and New Age circles, it's still believed that all gemstones hold unique characteristics that give the bearer specific attributes or, at the very least, enhances them in that person. Diamonds are associated with universal qualities of love and sexual passion due to the way it reflects light like an inner fire of many different colors. It is associated with purity as well. They are also said to help alleviate nightmares.
Other cultures believe that diamonds can amplify not just loving qualities but also negative ones. Others believe that a diamond can hold a curse, like the Hope Diamond and its unfortunate history. There are even magical suggestions for ways to purify a gemstone of "bad vibes" by putting it out in the moonlight. Obviously, one has to make up their own mind about the magical properties of gemstones. It is nice to know though that these qualities, powerful and otherworldly, have long been cherished and appreciated by humanity, not just in our modern age.
