The History of Diamond Mines
When you hear the word “diamond” you probably think of riches, dreams of love, and power. Before the middle ages diamonds were so expensive and rare that only royalty could afford this luxury. In modern times, diamond mines were found throughout the world making them affordable to ordinary people.
Diamonds were originally discovered in India during the fourth century. There are many legendary diamonds that were discovered in India. The Hope, Sancy, and Orlov are just a few of the many diamonds discovered in India. The Majhgawan pipe in India was the only diamond producing mine and it is located near Panna.
India was the only source of the valuable diamond until the 18th century South Africa, Siberia, and Russia would later discover the valuable diamond. Historical Sanskrit texts documented that diamonds were found, but only a few of these "found" diamonds could actually be verified. Eventually, India""s diamond mines were “dried up” and discoveries of other mines throughout the world took over the industry.
In 1867, diamonds were discovered in Cape Colony, which is a South African providence. The discovery changed the diamond market forever. Diamonds became more accessible to the Western society with its growing wealth. Science proved that diamonds came from volcanoes and the world learned of famous people like De Beers, Cecil John Rhodes, and Barney Barnato. South Africa is currently one of the worlds biggest diamond producer.
