Popular People with Popular Engagement Rings
Throughout history there have been absolutely gorgeous blushing brides, many of them famous. The brides themselves weren't the only ones famous though. While the engagement ring will never outshine the bride, there have been a notable few that have some notoriety of their own.
Lady Diana was proposed to by Prince Charles at a romantic scene with a candlelight dinner at Buckingham Palace. Prince Charles insisted that she took the time to think the proposal over very carefully. He explained the Royal responsibilities that would come with marrying the future king of England. Diana insisted that she did not need time to think the proposal over and accepted on the spot. On February 24, 1981, a public announcement was made of their engagement. Garrard was a British crown jeweler who showed Diana a tray of different styles of engagement rings. There are a few different theories on why Diana chose a sapphire instead of a diamond. Insiders of the palace claimed the princess actually chose a $42,000, 18-carat oval sapphire surrounded by 14 diamonds. Some royalty believe she chose a sapphire ring because it matched her eyes. Diana was quoted saying she chose the ring because it was the biggest.
Victoria Adams, known as Posh Spice from the 90s girl group the Spice Girls, met the love of her life in March 1997. David Beckham was a soccer player and met Victoria for the first time after one of his matches. Victoria claimed it was love at first sight. David insists for him it was even earlier. David claims when he saw the Spice Girl's music video "Say You'll Be There" is when he first fell in love with her. David proposed to Victoria at the Rookery Hall Hotel in Cheshire, England. He presented a 3-plus-carat Marquise-shaped diamond on a gold band. Victoria in return gave David an engagement ring too. She asked the jeweler to make a ring of gold and pave-set diamond bands large enough for her athletic fiancé. In 1999 the couple was married in a 15th century Irish castle in Dublin.
