Hollywood Beauties and their Engagement Rings
It's no surprise that when women think about their dream engagement ring, they think of classically iconic, beautiful women of the past and yearn for that touch of class, beauty and nostalgia in their own engagement ring. Two classic ladies from the past that have been constant inspirations for fashion and style, have also lent their engagement rings as symbols of classic and eternal love.
Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio dated for two years before Joe offered her an engagement ring. On January 12, 1954 Joe proposed to Marilyn Monroe. A couple of days later they went to City Hall in San Francisco to have a secret ceremony with only six guests. The ceremony was leaked to the press and over a hundred fans, reporters, and photographers showed up to the ceremony. Marilyn dressed in a simple chocolate suit and Joe was wearing the same tie he wore on their first date and a simple blue suit. Joe placed a platinum eternity band with 36 baguette-cut diamonds on Marilyn's left hand. The flashy jewel was an engagement ring and wedding band all rolled up into one for Marilyn Monroe.
Right after Audrey Hepburn won the Oscar for Roman Holiday, she traveled with Mel Ferrer to Switzerland for several weeks of rest and relaxation. They planned to get married after their trip to Switzerland. Audrey's engagement ring was absolutely stunning. The ring had an eternity band of baguette-cut diamonds that Mel had purchased from one of the most famous jewelers in Europe. The couple was married at a small chapel, on September 25, 1954, within walking distance from their villa. Mel gave Audrey two faceted wedding bands, one rose and one white gold. The rings were a perfect gift of Mel's ironic style - elegant and understated, refined and original. Audrey would wear the rings separately and coordinate the rings with the outfits she wore and the occasions to which she attended.
