Diamond Certification
Before you purchase a diamond, it is crucial that you review and acknowledge a copy of its grading certificate to guarantee the quality of the diamond. A diamond certificate, also sometimes referred to as a diamond grading report, is a certificate created by a certified gemologist who has analyzed the diamond usually under a microscope to analyze its dimensions, clarity, cut, color, finish, symmetry, and other qualifying characteristics. These are trained professionals who have spent many hundreds of hours learning about these gems and what to look for when scrutinizing the characteristics. It is essential that this gemologist represents the stone properly and is certified and trained to analyze these types of gems. There are a multitude of Gemological Institutes who have qualified personnel that appraise diamonds and assure their quality and grade. These professional institutes issue Diamond Gemological Reports with the latest and greatest information about diamond related events, news, and innovations. These organizations have been created to propel the diamond industry into the future and assure the quality and satisfaction in buying a diamond. Some of these institutes are the HRD, or Hoge Raad Voor Diamant (Diamond High Council). The HRD headquarters are in Antwerp and they represent the Belgian diamond trade. The GIA, or Gemological Institute of America was founded in Los Angeles in 1931 and is well know for instituting the international grading system. These are just a couple of examples of companies who are experts in the diamond field and employ well trained, certified gemologist who are able to grade and certify gems.
