Diamond Branding Bursts into the Market

Many companies are now branding the diamonds that they sale. These companies believe that branding will attract customers and give them a sense of reliability and integrity on the diamond products they sell. Designers and retailers have joined the trend of branding their diamond products as well through brand names and styles. Even diamond cutters brand their diamonds to display their precision cutting.

By branding a diamond you can identify and verify the history in the industry that the diamond possesses. Using laser technology to inscribe valuable information along the diamond edge literally "brands" the diamond. Typically, the brand name, the logo, and a registration number that matches the certificate issued with a diamond are inscribed on the diamond. Brands are becoming more and more popular in the market, but most diamonds do not have brand identification. These diamonds can be just as beautiful and equally dazzling. Just because there is not a brand on the diamond does not mean it is less valuable, in fact some unbranded diamonds offer better value. Trademark cuts are currently being duplicated with minor altercations and sometimes you can only notice the difference through magnification. Branding a diamond is easily duplicated as well; therefore there are fraud diamonds out there. New technology is consistently working on a fraud proofing this method of branding.

What the future is for diamond branding is somewhat of a mystery. Will consumers find that diamond branding is confusing, or more helpful? Only as time unfolds in the diamond branding industry will we know the answers to these questions. One thing we know for sure is that branding is not a substitute for knowledge and just because the diamond is branded does not necessarily mean that it is a better stone
