Conflict free diamonds at the Oscars
Jewelers and Stars alike are taking a more active role in making sure conflict diamonds are not being sold. The celebrities will be wearing their beautiful gowns and jewelry during the Oscars but the diamond jewelry will be made with conflict free diamonds. The movie Blood Diamond that recently came out depicted regions where diamonds were sold to fuel war and conflict. Since this movie came out there has been a spotlight put on conflict diamonds and the things they stand for. Stars such as Leonardo DiCaprio, who stars in the film, have put forth awareness about these conflict diamonds.
As the Oscars go on through the night, many stars will be saying or showing what it means to not wear conflict diamonds. Jennifer Connelly, who also, stars in the movie, will be making sure she does not wear any conflict diamonds. Does this mean less bling at the Oscars? No, it just means that more stars are coming forward in the fight to help stop the sale of conflict diamonds and that a lot of the stars this year will be asking if their diamonds are conflict free diamonds.
Awareness will be brought forth by the Oscars this year, by making sure the diamond jewelry that jewelers make and that celebrities wear are conflict free. As the celebrities take the Oscars by storm, jewelers are making sure that the public knows about conflict diamonds. They are doing this through educational websites and certifications saying the diamonds are not conflict diamonds, in doing this, jewelers are showing the public they believe it is wrong to sell conflict diamonds.
As always the celebrities at the Oscars will shine and the glow from the different gowns and jewelry will still be bright; but the awareness of conflict free diamond will be present. The Oscars this year will not only show why conflict diamonds are wrong by celebrities not wearing them, but they will also show how you can take notice and be active against these conflict diamonds.
