Engagement Rings for Celebrities
In 1999, Ryan Phillippe proposed to actress Reese Whitherspoon. Ryan selected a 4.5-carat Asscher-cut diamond in a 1920s art Deco setting. The ring fit the couple perfectly because they both had an appreciation for vintage things and they had old-fashioned ideas about romance. Their relationship consisted of letters and books that they sent each other when they were separated due to their work. Reese was so impressed with her ring that she posed with it for magazine covers and displayed how the diamond sparkles in several interviews. Reese ignited a comeback for Asscher cut engagement rings.Michael Douglas dated Catherine Zeta-Jones for 10 months when he proposed to her at his home in Aspen, Colorado. The ring was a vintage 10-carat marquise shape diamond set horizontally. When Michael Douglas chose the ring it took him just seconds to narrow it down to the design of his choice. Unaware, Michael Douglas chose a ring that Catherine had borrowed a few times for events that she had attended. Catherine always felt that this was a sign they were meant for each other.
On August 11, 2000 Madonna gave birth to her son in Los Angeles. Guy Ritchie immediately purchased a diamond ring and proposed to Madonna. Guy chose a platinum ring with three large diamonds when the press noticed the sparkling diamond ring on Madonna's left hand. She denied that the ring meant anything. She claimed the ring was just a token of Guy's love and the fact that they just had a baby. The couple was married four months later.
