Pearls are made by Mother Nature herself. A pearl will form when an irritant gets in to an oyster shell. The oyster then secretes a special coating called nacre to make the irritant smooth. Natural Pearls are made in wild oysters with out any human help and have become quite rare which makes them more expensive as well. If you can't afford the natural pearl don't get stressed you can get a cultivated pearl for much cheaper. A cultivated pearl is formed with human intervention, but they are nevertheless still very genuine and precious. The main difference between the two is that with a cultivated pearl a human places the irritant in the mollusk's shell. This process takes about two to five years.
