The engagement ring on women is a common occurrence, but seeing a man wear an engagement ring is something that is hardly heard of in the United States. The tradition of a man placing an engagement ring of a single diamond or other gemstone to indicate their upcoming marriage is one that dates back to classical times; however, some people may find it interesting on how the women in the relationship clearly makes a statement of her upcoming marriage while the men’s ring finger remains bare until the day he marries.
In countries such as Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Germany it is common for both the man and the women to where matching engagement rings of plain precious metal. Although these countries differ from the United States due to the fact that both the man and women wear engagement rings they also differ because the engagement ring that the women wears does not bear diamonds but in some cases the wedding band will feature diamonds. In other countries, such as Spain, it is common for the women to present the man with a wristwatch after his proposal.
It will take only time to tell whether the engagement ring for men will catch on here in the United States. While it is has been seen in some cases where a man will don a simple band of an alternative precious metal such as titanium or stainless steel, it has yet to become a nationwide trend.
