There are many inventive ways to make clothing and you often see contests crop up that test the creativity of people around the globe. Creativity is at an all time high these days as more and more people are able to create designs that rival those seen in the fashion industry. It takes quite a bit of talent to make these creations and it is impressive to see the results. Not only can a contest like the recent one held in conjunction with cheap-chic-weddings.com and Ripley’s Believe it or Not! uncover true talent, it can also reap the winner a big reward for their efforts. In fact, the winner of this contest won $1,000 and internet fame as their dress will be the talk of wedding and fashion sites of all kinds.

Since 2006, this contest has been quite a success for cheap-chic-weddings.com and Ripley’s. This year, all six of the top dresses will be permanently displayed at a Ripley’s Believe it or Not!, which is quite an honor for those who are involved. To have something as interesting as a toilet paper wedding dress displayed at such a famous place as Ripley’s Believe it or Not! is truly an honor for these amateur designers.

It takes a long time and patience to make a dress out of toilet paper as the toilet paper itself is very prone to ripping and tearing. In contrast to a material like satin or cotton, toilet paper is not as malleable and cannot withstand the elements in the same way. So the challenge set forth by this contest can be difficult to overcome. Ann Kagawa Lee of Honolulu, HI was not only able to make a beautiful wedding dress out of toilet paper, tape, and glue, but also a matching hat made of the same materials. The dresses design has been compared to Oscar De La Renta’s designs and was created using Lee’s origami skills as well as inspiration from the movie “Gone with the Wind”.
