white-gold-sapphire-ring.jpgWhen you are looking for engagement rings, it never hurts to also look at the different types of diamond wedding bands. By looking at the wedding bands, you can get an idea of how the engagement ring and the wedding band will look together. Similarly, you can get a sense of the style or design that interests you, or your future bride, before you actually make your purchase. Still, while it is helpful to review the different types of diamond wedding bands, you should leave picking out the bands as a couple’s activity to be done after she accepts the proposal. This will allow you both to have a say in the type and style of diamond wedding bands that you purchase. The first type of diamond wedding bands are those that are only accented by diamonds. This may include one or two diamonds, or just a few diamonds in a unique pattern that are no bigger than a chip. A straight wedding ring with diamonds can even have the diamonds set closer to the outer edge of the ring, which allows the diamond wedding bands to be seen without being overpowered by the engagement ring. Generally, the only important part in matching up the bands is that they are of the same type, which will make them blend together better than two completely different styles.

The other type of diamond wedding bands are those that come in a matching set. Many times you will find a wedding ring that is set in connection with the engagement ring. This may mean that the engagement ring diamond overlaps the wedding band or that the wedding band has some accent diamonds located on the two sides of the engagement ring. It may also mean that the style of the band, in addition to the solitaire diamond, was designed to go hand-in-hand with the engagement ring. In most cases, when an engagement ring and wedding band come as a matching set, a similar men’s ring will be found nearby as a suggestion to complete the group. Or, they may all come as one big set.

The last type of diamond wedding bands are considered to be eternity bands. These bands have small diamonds set within a channel in the ring and make a full circle of diamonds around the band. They can be purchased in both men’s and women’s styles and make a memorable choice, especially for women who do not plan to wear their engagement ring on a daily basis or who do not like to wear large diamond bands that stand up above the ring and could get caught on different items throughout the day. In these cases, the eternity band is a perfect choice.

Typically, choosing among the various types of diamond wedding bands is easier for women than it is for men. Women have generally taken more time leading up to the proposal to think about what they want. Furthermore, they have had more time to scout the type of rings that relatives, friends, and colleagues have worn and are able to compare them to the type of engagement ring or wedding band that they prefer. Women are also more likely to know jewelry lingo, and can better understand the process of purchasing wedding bands, which can become daunting especially as your wedding date draws near.

However, that does not mean that men should not be included in the process. As a team, you should decide how you want your wedding bands to look and whether or not you would like them to match. Even if they do not match, they should still be of similar style which will allow the rings to complement each other. Generally this means that some forethought should be put into the wedding bands with the purchase of the engagement ring. This is typically not hard to do, but is still important to keep in mind.

Ideally, no matter what type of diamond wedding band you choose, it should complement the design of the engagement ring. While this does not mean that your wedding band has to be plain or boring, it does mean that it should look like it was always meant to go with the engagement ring as a set, even if it was not, since it will typically be worn as a set for the rest of your life. The more time you put into the type of diamond wedding bands that you want, the happier you will be with your selection. This does not mean, however, that the jewelry selection should take over other parts of the wedding planning process or cause friction between the couple. At the end of the day, what matters most is how the two people get along and not what is on their fingers.
