Materialytics claims it can tell you the origin of a diamond with 95 percent accuracy. The company is based out of Killeen, Texas and is not interested in marketing their technology at the present time.

This new, laser-based technology may help diamond buyers determine if a gem is a “blood diamond.” Materialytics also claims it can help buyers identify the mine that a diamond came from as well as if the diamond has been treated.
The GIA remains skeptical and doubts that any current laser technology can determine which mine a diamond has come from and questions the claims made by Materialytics.
At the moment, the project is in its infancy and there are no plans for Materialytics to get into the gems business. They are a company that works with many different materials and have no immediate plans to market this new technology.
This technology could be helpful to jewelry retailers as it could help buyers make a decision knowing all of the facts. It could help streamline the Kimberley Process as well as the chain of custody would not have to be as stringent as it is currently.
