titanium-rings.jpg If you are soon to be married then you are probably finding that picking out mens wedding bands may be a little more difficult than choosing womens wedding bands. Luckily, the jewelry industry has embraced a somewhat different metal for mens wedding rings from the norm and finding a jeweler that has these rings might prove to make the picking out a ring for him a little easier. Titanium is the new metal in town for mens wedding bands and also womens wedding bands as well. Titanium being used in wedding bands is somewhat of a new craze that has caught on more with the men (interesting enough titanium was called menachite before given the name titanium by Dr. Martin Klaproth 200 years ago) and after a little history behind this metal it may be easy to understand why.

Titanium has always been a kind of wonder for the men and it seems that with the popularity that it is receiving today in mens wedding bands it still is. Titanium was discovered in 1791 and then pronounced as an element in 1795. However, it took until 1910 for many men to try, attempt, and then try again to get titanium to 99.9% purity. Many more years passed until 1947 when titanium exploded on the “scene” as it was used for the metal in spacecraft and then later to used in the very first Firebird.

It is no doubt that the history of titanium is quite unique, but now let us take a look at what makes this metal great for mens wedding bands. Titanium is a very fundamental metal that is very tough yet very light. Because of its hard as steel properties and light as feather weight, it is the perfect metal to be used in a ring that a man will wear for the rest of his life. Titanium also has a very “rugged” look with its deep gray color that can be polished for shine, treated for color, or etched for that ultra rugged look.
