October is a big month for fashion retailers as they release products that coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness month. They get the ball rolling in August and no one is exempt. From the smallest jewelry manufacturers to big-label names, everyone wants to get in on the excitement of bringing attention to this horrible affliction.
This year is certainly no exception as retailers and charities are partnering with one another to get the word out using social media. Twitter and Facebook are two of the best ways to communicate with your customers and let them know what is going on with your October breast cancer activities and products.
The past couple of years have been the best for Twitter users. Companies can quickly communicate not only to sell products but to address concerns and provide assistance to customers above and beyond just dealing with their own products. You need to show that you are not only after their money, but you genuinely want to help.
This sets up those who want to increase breast cancer awareness using Twitter and other social media outlets. A company who wants people to know about the disease can post information about products whose profits may go to charity, but they can also link articles that are helpful and informative. They can send customers to other charitable sites for further donating as well.
A recent outreach session in Philadelphia shows the importance of social media. Over 50 fashion writers and bloggers attended where products were handed out and tweeted about throughout the day. Not only did it give a real-time account of the session, but it also made the general public aware of the products that are available this month. The attending Twitter folks were asked to tag their tweets as well so that they were searchable for all, a good social media tactic to raise overall awareness.
