One of the most-awaited occasions of the year will always be Halloween. Children of all ages will want to don on their scariest costumes as they go trick-or-treating all over the neighborhoods. Clubs and bars are filled with blood baths, guests wearing the sexiest, if not the most frightening costumes. Indeed, the hunt for the best costumes can extend to every nook and cranny of a mall or a flea market.
But then again, what’s a costume without the most fitting pieces of jewelry? They can add more reality to your character and will certainly bring out the pirate or the gypsy in you.
The Special Brew of Witches
Witches thrive among their containers of eyes, spiders, and other gross stuff which can help them create their perfect mixtures. But when it comes to Halloween costumes and jewelry, nothing still beats the spooky earrings and bracelets. The sexier “witches” can don on a nice choker with a black band and a large stone in the middle, such as a citrine to go along with the Halloween theme. You can also customize your jewelry by attaching small fake bats and spiders in your earrings and bracelets. To make your costume more ultra-fashionable, you can mix big jewelries with colors ranging from deep purple or red to black. Don’t forget to wear that potion bottle just in case you’ll find the perfect ghoul or warlock for you.
Vampires Suck Blood but Conquer Fashion
Despite being left with no reflection, the reality is vampires are very much conscious of their appearance. Thus, when it comes to what they wear, they make sure that they are of high quality and trendy. Women can wear their boddy-hugging black gown along with their velvet chokers. You can also adorn your neck with pendants of solid colors, in the vampire signature colors of black and red.
Ironically speaking, other “vampires” carry with them pendants with huge crosses. You can wear one too, especially if you consider your character very much invincible. But if you want to stick to tradition, then you better go for bats, which seem to be the animal equivalent of vampires. After all, myth has it that if vampires are not inside coffins waiting for midnight, they roam around their old castles as bats.
The Fairy and the Princess
Now Halloween isn’t just for the ugly and the beastly. It is also the perfect time for the once-upon-a-time princesses and mythical creatures such as fairies to showcase their innate beauty.
Princesses are known to be gentle and, of course, royal in appearance. Thus, you should never forget that sparkling tiara complete with rhinestones and beads. You can pair it with an equally stunning scepter, which symbolizes your reign. You may also add a gold silver necklace with a big gemstone as your pendant. Fingers are also adorned with shiny big stones such as fake emeralds and rubies. You can even decorate them all over your shoes to add some more effects.
Fairies, on the other hand, prefer the use of charms. You can simply get some pieces of glistening stones and use them as your belts, earrings, and bracelets. Make sure too that your wand stands out.
Find Mysticism as Fortune Teller, Belly Dancer, or a Gypsy
Fortune tellers, gypsies, and belly dancers are very much well-known for their free spirit; and these are very much displayed by their manner of dressing and the jewelry they wear. The gypsies can settle for long skirts, scarves on their heads, and shoulder-revealing blouses. You can then complete the whole get-up with a pair of large hoop earrings and multiple bracelets. Walk with a nice pair of pointed boots and working tambourine, and you’re good to go.
Fortune tellers, on the other hand, dress almost similarly as the gypsies, except that they have more accessories worn, especially on their fingers, which should be adorned with rings, and lots of bangles on their wrists. Unlike gypsies, they normally would like to settle down in one corner with their crystal ball. But if you want to roam around with the gypsies, make sure you bring your own tarot cards.
Belly dancers need to be sexy but mysterious at the same time. Costumes are naturally see-through, with a veil that seemingly covers the face. Regardless of their origin, they are fond of rhinestones and anything that sparkles. They also go for elaborate bands for their wrists and multiple-layered chokers. For a more ethnic look, you can add stones of rustic and glass appearance, as well as tassels all over your pants.
Ahoy, Pirates!
Pirates are a crazy bunch. They live in the sea, so they basically rely on the wealth of their victims when it comes to the clothes and pieces of jewelry they wear. Typically, a pirate can live with a striped (black and white) shirt and knee-cropped pants. One piece of loop earring will already suffice. Yet, their egos rise when they could steal as many properties from wealthy ships. Thus, you can add a few more jewelry such as gold bracelets, and multiple necklace chains. Bracelets, however, should remain tightly fitted into the wrists. You know how pirates enjoy traveling through the rigs. You basically don’t want your character to die because his arm with the oversized bracelet got caught in one of the riggings and fall off his boat. You can also try wristbands made of hemp as pirates love to do things with anything that looks like ropes.
Go Back in Time
Because Halloween is all about playing characters, you can simply go back in time and pick a person that you want to imitate. If you want to be Maria Antoinette of France, you can settle for elaborate pieces of earrings and necklaces with faux diamond and ruby stones. This is because she loves anything fancy and flamboyant. You can also be like a Hollywood movie star circa 1930s–1940s. Popular during that time were Art Deco style of rings that are also very ornate and eye catching.
Where to Buy Your Costume Jewelry
Coming up with a character to play is fun, but looking for the right jewelry can be daunting. So where do you exactly look for them? There are many online specialty stores that can help you create your Halloween alter ego. Prices are comparable to the ones you see in department stores and they can deliver the goods right at your doorstep, sometimes for reduced. You may also hunt for bargain sales. The good thing about garages and flea markets is that you can find unique pieces of Halloween costume jewelry.
