Finding a gemstone that has color is not a difficult task for even those who have little to no knowledge of the gemstone trade. However, finding a gemstone that is beautiful, has a vibrant color and is brilliant is a little harder for one to come across, especially if one is looking for a unique gemstone for a ring. To find a brilliant, colored gemstone for a unique ring that also happens to be a diamond enters into the world of the truly rare and expensive diamond gemstone.
Well, for a few million dollars, you could find yourself in ownership of such a brilliant, colored, diamond gemstone. The Pumpkin Diamond is a gemstone of truly unique and brilliant color and clarity. Weighing in at a carat weight of 5.54, the Pumpkin Diamond does not sound like a particularly astounding diamond. However, while the Pumpkin Diamond may not have the carat weight of some other famous diamonds, such as the 59.60 carat Steinmetz Pink or the 27.64 carat Heart of Eternity, the Pumpkin Diamond is able to stand proudly amongst such brilliant, colored, diamond gemstone giants.
The remarkable quality of the brilliant Pumpkin Diamond, and what has made it such a remarkable diamond ring, is the rich, brilliant, orange color found in the gemstone. Found in the Central African Republic in 1997, the brilliant, vivid, orange gemstone was eventually bought by the jeweler, Ronald Winston, to be a part of the House Of Harry Winston. The brilliant gemstone was given the name, the Pumpkin Diamond, due to its color and the fact that it was purchased the day prior to Halloween. The brilliant gemstone was set into a ring by the House of Harry Winston, demonstrating its striking and unique beauty, even set amongst one of the world’s most strikingly brilliant diamond ring showcases.
In 2002, the House of Harry Winston allowed Halle Berry to wear the brilliant Pumpkin Diamond ring during the Academy Award Ceremony. The unique, brilliant gemstone ring demonstrated its distinction during the awards, catching the notice of every eye during the event. Further demonstration of the unique beauty of this brilliant gemstone ring was demonstrated when it was placed on display as a part of the Smithsonian Museum’s diamond gemstone display, “The Splendor of Diamonds”.
The Pumpkin Diamond was originally purchased in 1997 for $1.3 million. This brilliant gemstone, without a ring setting, is believed to be currently valued at $3 million. The Gemological Institute of America has even gone as far as to state that it stands amongst the largest of the fancy orange diamonds currently known in the world. While it is true that such a brilliant colored diamond gemstone will not make the largest ring that one could have, it is just as true that one would have a difficult time in finding a more distinctive brilliant diamond gemstone ring as can be found in a ring holding the Pumpkin Diamond.
