Although older news, this diamond story is without doubt one worth mentioning again. In 2004, a miraculous diamond was discovered in South Africa, which was named the Tirisano Easter Diamond. What makes this particular diamond so intriguing is that when exposed to ultra violet light it changes to a beautiful and bright pink color. The Tirisano Easter Diamond is a whopping 13.7 carats. While some diamonds do change color, the fluorescent pink is quite unusual and rare. Even more fascinating is that this diamond will remain a bright pink for some time after it has been removed from the UV light source, something other diamonds simply do not do.

Over the years, the Tirisano Easter Diamond has been examined and analyzed with experts trying desperately trying to determine the mystery of the diamond. Owned by Mountain Lake and Etruscan mining companies, it was planned at that time that in-depth laboratory testing would be performed after which time the stone would go on sale at auction to a private collector.

The Tirisano Easter Diamond is so rare that the Director of National Diamond Marketing, Les Meyer, stated that having examined literally millions of diamonds over his lifetime, never before has he witnessed such a phenomenon. Obviously, while many diamonds have caused quite a stir, this one has indeed created interest by people all around the globe.

The diamond eventually made its way to London where it was put on display for the first time at the Garrard flagship store. For two weeks, people went to view the diamond in personal, watching its color change from clear to bright pink. The diamond remains uncut and whether it will ever be broken down into smaller stones is yet to be determined.

Even the master craftsmen at Garrard, the most prominent and cutting edge designer of luxury and innovative jewelry remains in awe. Over the years, a number of uniquely colored diamonds have come out of the Tirisano mine but nothing such as the Tirisano Easter Diamond. With its unusual, rich pink color, Garrard proudly displayed the stone as a part of the Valentine’s display in February of 2004. The actual value of the stone is also not determined.

Over the years, many diamonds have made headlines for their remarkable color and size. For instance, the diamonds purchased by Richard Burton for Elizabeth Taylor have long been considered some of the most spectacular species. The most famous, the Taylor-Burton Diamond is 69 carats that she wears as a pear-shaped necklace. Originally known as the Cartier diamond after Cartier, Inc, the diamond was sold for a record price of more than $1 million.

Then, there is the Cullinan Diamond, which is one of the largest ever found in South Africa. Found by the Cullinan Diamond Mining Company, this diamond is an incredible 3,106 carats that was eventually cut into 105 magnificent diamonds. Of these, the largest is a 530-carat stone called the Star of Africa. The Tirisano Easter Diamond is another one that ranks among those called the most famous diamonds of the world.
