You found the perfect ring and talked to her father and got his blessing. Everyone knows you’re going to propose soon – this, unfortunately means that she always knows. You know you need to surprise her. You know you have to propose in a way or in a place that she’ll never expect it or see it coming. You just can’t think of a way to propose that she’ll never be able to refuse and will remember forever! Here is a few, simple, timeless ideas that make just about every woman’s heart race and her eyes tear-up.
For the more traditional women, go for the classics. Take her to a nice restaurant and hide the ring under her napkin. She won’t be surprised, probably, but some women appreciate classic traditions like this one. There’s also the never failing walk in the park. At a romantic part in the conversation, stop walking, take a knee, and pop the question.
Take her to a movie that you know she wants to see (a chick-flick is probably your best bet). Arrange for the theatre to play a trailor of your own making before the movie starts. Just before the trailor starts, leave to “go get some refreshments.” The trailor is of course a video of yourself, telling her how much she means to you and how much you’ll always love her, and asking her to marry you. Present the ring in the video. While the video is going on, sneak back into the theatre and stand behind her. As the video-you presents the ring, present the ring behind her and tap her on the shoulder so that she turns about and sees the real you and the real ring. No doubt everyone else in the theatre will be looking for you as well, and all the adoring fans will be holding their breath waiting for her to say yes. How could she ever say no after that and in front of all those people?!
Make a photo album of scrap book of your life with her so-far. Include pictures you’ve taken together, and mementos from your dates like movie stubs or a piece of the picnic blanket you used in June, a burnt out firework from the fourth of July – little things that by themselves wouldn’t mean much. The fact that you saved these things (or thought to go collect them after the fact) will mean a lot to her. On the last page of the album, after all the mementos, tape the engagement ring ir put it under the sticky paper so that she sees it. She’ll love it.
Purchase some add space on a couple of billboards on her usual route to work. ON the billboards ask her to marry you. Or can be repetitive and ask on every billboard so she’s sure to see it, or ask with a few words on each billboard. Be waiting for her when she gets to work with some flowers and a ring, and wait for her to fall all over herself while she tries to say yes!
Buy a copy of her favorite book. Carve out the middle pages and place a ring there instead. Ask her to read the book to you, cuddled on the couch in front of a roaring fire. As soon as she opens the book, she’ll see the ring!
For a lower budget surprise, consider this suggestion. If she has a dog, and likes to take him to the park, arrange a day for this. Send the dog away to go get a ball or a drink of water, and distract your leading lady. While the dog is out, have a friend tie the ring to the dog’s collar, and send the dog back to his lovely owner. If she has a cat, tie the ring yourself to the collar when she’s not looking. Eventually the cat will approach her for some attention, and she’ll see the ring. She’ll probably find this cute and sweet, and very surprising.
You see, there are low budget and high budget proposals that will fit just about every woman. Look at the things that are important to her, and have your proposal revolve around it. Her pets or hobbies (gardening, for instance) are usually a good way to go. If you really can’t think of anything, ask her friends how they would like to be proposed to. Often times, friends think alike in those matters. Of course, if she loves you (which I’m sure she does), then no matter how you propose she is sure to say yes, but it’s always nice to make it special and memorable so you can tell your grandchildren about it.
