Hollywood is always surprising us with trends or publicity stunts that would be seen nowhere else in the world. People wearing fur belts, animal instinct designer shoes, or a 50’s chic evening gown are all just a part of Hollywood glamour. In addition to the traditional diamonds seen in watches, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and hair accessories, another trend has made a definite statement.
Take the $1,500 diamond v bra by Victoria Secret. Originally, this bra was designed specifically for the 73rd Oscars Best Actress nominees, as a symbol of good luck. Now, we are seeing even more over the top diamond creations to include special collections that are simply stunning. Many of the top diamond jewelers are now offering the option to build your own ring, which has tongues wagging among Hollywood women.
Of course, it would be hard to top the famous fantasy bra by Victoria Secret worn by the beautiful model, Gisele. This bra was gem-encrusted with the center design being a dangling 101 carat, flawless pear-shaped white diamond, along with 29,000 other pave diamonds that were complemented with 22 rubies, all set in 18-karat white gold. When revealed, people were simply speechless.
We even see actors taking the red carpet wearing diamond tiaras, once only worn by princess and queens. In Hollywood, the diamond rules, often being more exotic than the most gorgeous, designer gown. In fact, if you were to read any number of magazines following a large gala, you would notice that the diamond jewelry is mentioned. Jewelers know how to get creations noticed by having famous people borrow them for some type of special occasion.
While we still see beautiful diamonds in engagement rings, necklaces, bracelets, and other pieces of jewelry that the average person wears, we have also seen a unique trend in Hollywood of amazing diamond creations. Whether a bra, tiara, or perfect diamond pin worn in the hair, we have to admit that celebrities know how to go all out when it comes to enjoying diamonds.
Diamonds have been around since the beginning of time and it is doubtful there will be any letup in the interest of buying. In fact, many countries that mine diamonds are seeing huge growths. For instance, India saw a 22.27% growth of diamond exports accounting for almost $21 million. The export of cut and polished diamonds saw a huge increase from $10.9 billion during 2006 and 2007 to $14.2 billion in 2007 to 2008. Even Hong Kong, which is the top importer of cut and polished diamonds coming out of India, enjoyed a 35% growth.
As long as Hollywood continues to advertise diamonds, showing the public remarkable creations, we can expect that the diamond is going to become even more desired. While some trends come and go, we suspect diamonds are here to stay. Although we may never see a diamond-encrusted bra again, it is only a matter of time before the next great creation is showcased for the world to enjoy.
