When it comes to fashion trends, we all tend to watch the celebrities and emulate whatever it is that they are doing. As a result, trend watchers are predicting that this spring natural colored diamonds are going to go through the roof in terms of popularity. Consumers are growing increasingly curious about natural colored diamonds as the result of recent spikes in purchases of the diamonds by celebrities and other well known socialites. Consequently, very high profile designers and retailers have picked up an interest in the stones. While diamonds have always been considered to be a luxury item, natural colored diamonds are even pricier than their colorless counterparts. This is because they tend to be rarer and anything that is rare is automatically considered to be more valuable.
Jewelry and fashion experts are predicting that the trend for colored diamonds will continue to remain strong throughout the spring despite uncertain economic times. One of the reasons for this, according to experts, is the fact that it appears that no matter what shape the economy is in, luxury items still remain strong. This could be because many such luxury items, diamond jewelry included, retains its value.
The massive spread of technology has served to educate consumers about the values of jewelry and what an excellent investment it can actually be while continual reports of celebrities wearing rare jewelry, such as colored diamonds, has driven the craving of the public.
The yearning for colored diamonds could be so strong that it is already being predicted that 2009 will be an extremely good year in terms of retail sales for many colored diamonds. In particular, yellow diamonds seem to be topping the list when it comes to the most desirable colors for diamonds. There are a variety of different shades of yellow diamonds available and all of the beautiful sunny toned diamonds seem to be at the top of most people’s wish lists. For the third year in a row yellow has been named as one of the top colors in terms of fashion. This is fairly unusual due to the fact that in the past yellow struggled to even be on the top 10 list, let alone at the top.
In the past years, colored diamonds received very little attention. For the most part, the only people who were even aware of colored diamonds were those die hard fashionistas who pored over magazines. Today that is no longer the case. Practically everyone is aware that colored diamonds are the new hot fashion items, particularly among celebrities. As a result, it is little wonder that the public naturally craves them as well.
The rapid rise in demand for colored diamonds has lead many manufacturers to begin creating jewelry pieces at the mid-level price tag range in order to be prepared.
Just how much do most purchasers of colored diamonds spend? On average, when it comes to natural yellow diamonds, it appears that the sales price is somewhere between $20,000 and $100,000. It’s clear why so many jewelers are banking on the continuity of this trend. A number of jewelry stores are latching onto the idea and moving ahead with their own unique jewelry designs, all featuring natural colored diamonds.
In some cases, it is not always just about trying to emulate celebrities. Some jewelers are reporting that sales of yellow diamonds have increased as a direct response to the hike in prices of flawless white diamonds. People naturally want the best value they can find. As white diamond prices have increased, a large number of people have begun to recognize that yellow diamonds actually present a better value.
Still, for others, there is no denying that owning a colored diamond is all about prestige and wearing the latest trend. When you own a natural colored diamond, you own something that is truly unique and rare. For couples who are looking for the ultimate option to show that their relationships is also unique and rare, natural colored diamonds can be an excellent option. At least for those couples who can afford to make such a statement.
While yellow diamonds certainly rank at the top of the popularity list, they are not the only colored diamonds that can be considered. Practically every color of the rainbow is available, with other color options including pinks, greens and blues. If you really want to make a statement and create a piece of jewelry that is different, there are even smoke and chocolate colored diamonds available as well. The sale of black diamonds in engagement rings has not quite jumped off the chart yet, but the trend of black diamond engagement rings is certainly not unprecedented. It remains to be seen whether black diamond engagement rings will be able to compete with other hues when it comes to natural color diamond engagement rings.

It is also important to mention, that while many of the yellow, light pink, champagne and brown colored diamonds being used by popular designers are totaly untreated natural, other colors of diamonds are not always natural. Unfortunately, some unscrupulous jewelers are marketing pink, blue, green, black and even white diamonds as natural when they are in fact color treated. This is where problems arise. Color treated diamonds are a wonderful resource for people who demand high quality jewelry at a more manageable price, as long as they are marketed as such! So be an educated consumer and read up!
