wedding_ring_diamonds.jpgThere are many instances in life when we lose things that we think are valuable to us such as mementos from the past and gifts given to us by relatives. One thing that we know that will have an effect on us if we lose it is our wedding ring. This ring represents our bond with our spouse and whether it is valuable or not, the sentiment behind it is really what makes it valuable. Whether a diamond ring or a simple stainless steel wedding band, the loss of something so valuable can be truly heartbreaking and the loss can stay in our mind for a very long time. We also go to whatever lengths necessary to try to recover the lost ring such as the case of Aleki Taumoepeau, from New Zealand who lost his ring in a murky body of water.

While working, Aleki’s wedding ring came loose and plummeted to the bottom of the Wellington harbor, 10 feet below the surface. To mark the spot, Aleki dropped an anchor where he thought the ring may be located. Three months after the incident, a search turned up nothing and his wife offered to buy him a new ring, but he resisted, promising that he would find the ring. After 16 months, Aleki found the ring inches away from the anchor he tossed into the water to identify the area where the ring was lost, the water was cold and murky and he risked much to find it. The ring was glistening in the murky water and Aleki was surprised it was so easily located on this second visit. He was most certainly relieved to have finally found his cherished ring as he was recently married to his wonderful wife. This just goes to show you that persistence can pay off when you really want something.
