There are numerous instances in the history of the world where engagement rings and weddings rings have been lost in unfortunate circumstances, only to come back to the owner through situations that are at best outrageously fortuitous and at worst unbelievably coincidental. The recent example of the special bond that wearers often develop with their rings is seen in the way Den Kirby of Attleboro saw her rings returned to her in miraculous circumstances.

Den Kirby’s story starts with the trash, which was how she lost five of her precious rings. The rings that Den Kirby accidentally put in the trash included her engagement ring, her wedding ring, a ring that her father gifted to her and two other valuable rings which were her favorites. However, the trash or the waste management company of her region helped her retrieve her five rings from a heap of trash just a few minutes before it was due to be incinerated.

Of the five rings that Den Kirby lost, three were extremely precious to her because of her special emotional connection with them and the kind of monetary value that they carry. The day that Den Kirby lost her rings, she woke up only to find them gone. Den Kirby searched for her rings desperately but could not find them. She subsequently went about her daily routine which involved going to work to the Bristol County Savings Bank. However, she decided to go back to her home during the lunch period and look for her five rings again.

According to Den Kirby herself, this was highly unusual as she always knew where her rings were. Most of the time, she would be wearing her rings anyway. When asked about her search, Den Kirby said that it was simply frantic and she just could not figure out where the rings had disappeared.

As Den Kirby gave up her search inside the house and started going back to work, she finally realized where her rings were. To Den Kirby’s horror, she realized that her rings including the special engagement ring, her father’s gift and wedding ring had gone into the trash can with some dirty paper towels that were lying on her kitchen counter. Den Kirby had had a busy day and, hence, had absentmindedly thrown the rings into the trash with the waste on her kitchen counter. Den Kirby says that the whole realization came to her like a wave and shocked her to the core.

Notably, even the fact that the rings were on the kitchen counter was pure chance. Den Kirby was drying her rings after washing her hands and only put them onto the kitchen counter because she was distracted by something. Later in the evening, after Den Kirby had watched television and had her dinner, she forgot that her rings were on the kitchen counter and simply tossed them into the bin. As luck would have it, this happened on the Monday night and Tuesday was a trash collection day which meant that the rings were already gone.

As Den Kirby went into panic after realizing her mistake her husband told her to call the trash company, as this was her last chance of getting them back. This was a brilliant move from Den Kirby because her decision to call the trash company was one of the best she made in her life. The waste management company was especially helpful through Aaron Smith and Walter Taylor, who identified the truck that had collected trash from Den Kirby’s street and turned it around before it could dump its load into the incinerator.

The truck was sent to the Raynham Transfer Station where its cargo was dumped to be searched later. It was only the next morning that Den Kirby and workers from the waste management company started their search through the filthy garbage for the lost five rings. As Den Kirby could tell the officials that the rings were in a black bag with a blue draw string, it only took Aaron Smith and Walter Taylor half an hour to find the bag and the rings in it.

In essence, within a period of 24 hours Den Kirby had realized that her cherished rings were gone and had them returned to her miraculously. Naturally, for Den Kirby Aaron Smith, Walter Taylor and their team are special heroes. Den Kirby even described the moment she put the rings back on and said that her hands were shaking from sheer happiness. She appreciated the honesty of the officials from the waste management company, saying that they could have easily told her that nothing could be done about her rings.
