    Start with a Diamond
    Start with Setting

platinumring.pngLong gone are the days of diamond-free hands for unwed and single women. New diamond jewelry trends insist that the right hand is for those who are unwed, and perfectly happy with that fact! In fact, celebrity talk show host Oprah Winfrey, began to create some buzz around the trend of a right hand, single gal, diamond ring when she focused her giant media spotlight on a single Chicago-based manufacturer only a few short years ago. Since that time an amazing number of designs and styles have appeared on the scene, with pinky rings as well as standard rings being sold to those who are single and very pleased to be so.

The many jewelry companies and diamond sellers who have joined in this new concept are crafting and marketing right hand diamond rings in unique patterns and styles. Highly in demand among these new designs and styles are the already-popular colored diamonds, either as a single stone in a strong or dramatic single setting, or surrounded by smaller colorless diamonds. While cut, size and design continue to vary dramatically from one manufacturer to another, the emphasis is on a luxurious piece of jewelry that a woman can purchase for herself.

Why hasn’t this been a trend before now? That is a difficult question to answer, say many jewelry and diamond industry analysts, but many experts point to a key indicator for the recent sales development. In 2007 single women purchasing homes of their own surpassed the number of single men doing the same thing, for the first time in history. This same trend has been noted within the vacation timeshare business as well, with single women coming in at a close second place to couples who purchased or invested in a vacation timeshare property. With so many women no longer waiting around for marriage and families in order to purchase a big ticket item like a home, or to make long term life investments, industry experts realized that these women didn’t want or need to wait around for someone to buy them beautiful jewelry either.

Because women are earning higher salaries than ever before, and social statistics state that in general women are marrying later, they will continue to have disposable income that they are able to spend on themselves. In fact, since 2004 diamond industry experts have measured a twenty percent increase in jewelry sales to single women. Clearly a single gal ring has become something like a status symbol, or strong statement of independence and pride.

In response to these statistics many of the major diamond sellers and jewelry manufacturers are launching marketing campaigns and initiatives directed specifically at these upwardly mobile and free spirited women. Many are re-directing the marketing funds away from the “second diamond ring” campaigns traditionally aimed at married women, and instead asking single women why they are waiting around for a diamond ring when they can buy their own?

white-gold-sapphire-ring.jpgThe price ranges for these rings are currently at a low of around two hundred and ninety-five dollars and increase from there. Some of the rings are extremely luxurious with dramatic settings and many diamonds, while other are a simple as traditional engagement-style rings, with single stones in basic settings. One of the most popular designs currently available is a simple single row of diamonds that encircles the finger, and are sought out in numerous metals such as gold, white gold, silver, sterling or platinum.

New professional and trade terminology is developing out of this trend, including the term “right hand ring” to specify that the ring is for the happily single woman. The fashion industry has taken note of the trend and popularity of the “right hand ring” and has begun to integrate the look into their lines and seasonal looks. This allows for multiple versions of the “right hand ring” to be purchased and worn at different times of year. This means that a woman can find herself with a platinum, silver or white gold ring as well as a pure yellow gold ring, and each version can have a different configuration of colorless or colored diamonds. There is also a very hot trend in antique or estate style rings being reproduced for the “right hand ring” markets.

There is a distinct and clearly indicated “treat yourself right” mindset behind the “right hand ring” trend. This symbol of a healthy frame of mind is being fostered and supported by many female celebrities, including Minnie Driver and Kirsten Dunst, who have joined millions of other women who display their single status proudly. Sales and trends indicate that the single gal rings are a continuing style trend and that thousands of women are still lining up to be part of the growing and positive phenomenon.

I am looking to sell my Worldmark timeshare that I bought about 3 years ago. What kind of prices can I expect to get? I understand I will be taking a big hit on the resale price, but can anyone with a similar experience tell me what they received?
