A colored diamond necklace will give an added elegance to any style of necklace, but what is it that gives a diamond its color?

There are two ways that a diamond can get its color, it can be natural or manmade. Natural colored diamonds usually result from trace amounts of different elements inside the diamonds, or they could occur from natural exposure to radiation. Natural colored yellow diamonds get their color from the presence of nitrogen.

Colored diamonds that are used in diamond necklaces can also be manmade from off white diamonds. A process called HPHT can be performed on off white diamonds to create almost any color of diamond under the sun. The only color that is difficult to create is the color green. There are benefits of purchasing a colored diamond that is manmade. If you cannot find an affordable naturally colored diamond, then you could have the color that you want created.

There are also ways to make the colored diamonds in your diamond necklace look more brilliant. If you use a yellow gold setting with your colored diamonds, it will make them look darker. This is especially true of red and green diamonds, but if you use the yellow gold setting with a colorless diamond it will make the diamond appear to have a yellow tint.

It does not matter what color diamond you choose for your diamond necklace because it is sure to be stunning no matter what.
