While not an official holiday on the calendar, this holiday is celebrated by online retailers on the Internet who are competing against brick-and-mortar stores after Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. Black Friday is well known for outrageously good deals that people camp out overnight, sometimes, to get, but you don’t have to go to such lengths to get in on the good deals on Cyber Monday. You can even sleep in, if you like. That’s because whether you’re looking for jewelry designs for diamonds, toys, or books, you can bet your online retailer is looking ahead to provide some deals for their audience on Cyber Monday in the hopes of jump-starting the holiday shopping season.
How It All Started
The first time the term Cyber Monday officially got started was in 2005, when the U.S. Trade association National Retail Federation put it into practice. It was used to denote the following Monday after Black Friday, as a surge in shopping online was noted during this day, up to 77% of retailers saying they had an increase in sales then. They surmised that shoppers had probably gone to their local brick-and-mortar stores during Black Friday, shopped around, but failed to find everything they were looking to buy. So, due to the lack of home broadband at the time, they waited until the following Monday when they were working to check out the deals online and to locate items they still needed to buy for the holidays. Thus, the online retailers decided it would be good to market and advertise deals for the audience that had appeared during that time.
It’s Now Just The Start Of Online Deals
The day officially marks the beginning of aggressive promotions online to get buyers to shop online sites. It’s not actually the biggest shopping day of the year online, as other research has proven that, unlike Black Friday, online shoppers will actually take a bit more time to make their decisions. Thus, you can see online retailers lining up to get the most attention they can get on that day, and they will get significant sales. However, the most sales are actually seen between December 5th and the 15th when last minute shoppers realize they are running out of time to get items shipped back to their home. By that time, inventories may be low, and postal service strained. It’s always better make shopping decisions early, even if you won’t hit the button to buy until a few days after Cyber Monday.
Make Out Your Gift List Early
Jewelry is usually tops on everyone’s gift-giving list. Find out the styles your recipients want and estimate a budget early. That way, when you can start to research the inventory available online, and get set to grab a deal on Monday using special coupon codes or promotions specifically for Cyber Monday. Thanksgiving makes the perfect holiday to socialize with family and friends, and from there you can find out what people’s preferences are like, and how to get them something they’ll truly love at the price you want. When someone asks you if you’re going to a Black Friday event, tell them you plan on sleeping in and doing your shopping online this year. This way, you won’t feel pressured to shop at someone else’s convenience, and you keep a tighter reign on your budget. You’ll also look like a pretty smart shopper too. If you plan it right, you can get all your shopping done in one fell swoop, leaving the rest of the holiday season open for socializing and fun activities.
Check Your Favorite Online Retailers
Look at your favorite retailers, including online jewelry sites. You can get some fantastic deals without having to camp out overnight in a parking lot. You won’t have to fight the crowds, or stand in line at the cash register. You can take your time looking at everything, without needing to grab the item before it flies off the shelf due to a limited quantity promotion. Check the blogs, newsletters, and other informational sites of your jewelry and other retailers to see what they have planned ahead of time. You may find further discounts and promotions advertised only in special places. Above all, take your time and have fun. You have enough to worry about during the holidays, and adding stress to it with stampeding hordes of shoppers is one thing anyone can do without. Luckily, now that you can buy anything online, it’s easy to do and still get great deals, if you plan ahead.
