Diamonds in their rough form are sorted on site by size and also by use. Diamonds can either be of high quality and used as gemstones for jewelry or can be used for industrial purposes. Diamonds are the hardest of all naturally occurring minerals and can be used in the industrial world for cutting and polishing. It is interesting to see all of the uses that have been discovered for diamonds. Plastic injection molders use diamond paste of varying grit to polish molds to create plastic products. Diamond cutting wheels slice through all kinds of metal with ease. But it is a tricky task to separate these diamonds when they are found at the mine.

Diamond sorters are able to determine when the diamonds move past them on conveyor belts whether the diamonds are suitable for jewelry or industrial use. It takes a keen eye and a bit or hands-on experience to truly know the difference in quality. If high quality diamonds are sorted for industrial use, money is lost, so it is crucial that you stay on top of your game and sort correctly. These industrial use diamonds are sold at a much lower price, as they are usually very low quality and often quite small. There are often ground to dust applied to diamond wheels for cutting. They are even ground down to make paste that exfoliates skin in salons across the country.
