This article will address some of the past and future diamond trade shows, those that have been given significant attention. Trade shows are attended by both importers and exporters who are looking for good diamonds at great prices.
New York, New York
The Couture Diamond Leadership Conference was held in 2005 where retailers and suppliers of high-end diamonds could come together to explore new options and address issues specific to the quick changing world of diamonds. In fact, the facilitators of the show stated that they were working hard to transform the diamond industry.
To assist couture retailers and their concerns, a 2004 Couture Diamond Leadership Conference was produced by VNU Expositions, partnering with VNU Business Publications Couture International Jeweler. One of the best known diamonds brands in the world, “Hearts on Fire”, was discussed to help educate those in the diamond industry better.
New Antique Jewelry Show - Last summer, a four-day trade show was established in New York, called the New York Antique Jewelry and Watch Show. Held over a three-day period, this show was at the Metropolitan Pavilion, bringing some 110 national and international dealers to one place. As a part of the show were all types of antique, rare, and vintage pieces to include watches and other jewelry pieces. These pieces were presented from well-known companies, which included Cartier, Rolex, Tiffany & Company, and many others.
JA New York Show - This particular diamond trade show was held this past October, also over a three-day period. The difference with this trade show was that instead of antique pieces, it was a way to showcase the latest and greatest trends specific to diamond jewelry. The trade show featured more than 450 exhibitions. Of these, many came from beautiful countries such as Thailand, Italy, Hong Kong, and Brazil where they proudly displayed unique designs. Other exhibitions included specialty gift items and fashion accessories.
Miami Beach, Florida
The Jewelers International Showcase - Also known as JIS, this show was held in January over three days at the Miami Beach International Center. Although this particular trade show has been around for some time, moving the date up from April resulted in a 50% increase in attendance. In fact, experts estimate the number of designers, dealers, importers, and exporters was in excess of 5,000 whereas previous numbers were around 2,200.
Israel
Baselworld 2007 - This diamond trade show is put on by the people from Israel who is involved with the diamond industry in one form or another. Diamond buyers will find tons of helpful information. In addition, there was a large number of diamantaires. With Israel being a strong contributor to the world of diamonds, this is a popular trade show that has some incredible diamonds on display.
Shenzhen, China
Asian Trade Show - In March of 2008, there was an international trade show that lasted four days in Shenzhen, China. As the sixth annual show, each year more and more people are attending this diamond trade show. In all, 12 countries come together to showcase some 350 exhibitions. Of all international trade shows, this one is known as being the most incredible.
While many of the participants are from Hong Kong and China, the diamond trade show is open to anyone involved with the diamond industry. In fact, for two years running, the Israel Diamond Institution has been involved with this Asian diamond trade show, gathering valuable information from potential buyers. Held at the beautiful Shenzhen Fair Center, the largest jewelry manufacturing center in all of China, this is an outstanding consideration.
During this timeframe, four unique shows were occurring. As mentioned, the Shenzhen Jewelry Show is the most impressive but others include the Bangkok Trade Show, the Hong Kong Jewelry Show, and the Macau Trade Show. In all, some 50 diamond companies from Israel displayed incredible diamonds and jewelry pieces.
Vietnam
Vietnam International Trade Show - With this Diamond trade show, every May people come to see diamonds and jewelry pieces. For two days, people come to walk among the 180 booths that represent 14 different countries. Although most people do not think of Vietnam when it comes to the diamond industry, the hope is to open the doors, showing that there is a growing diamond market. In fact, the organizers of this trade show state that there is lots of untapped potential in Vietnam.
New Delhi, India
This diamond trade show is held in India, having its first show in 2006 with the expectation of continuing it as an annual event. Known as the JCK Diamond Trade Show, there are a number of programs specific to watches and jewelry. The goal with this particular trade show is not only to highlight what India has to offer but to also get more involvement from the government in stopping the spread of conflict diamonds. With such success in the first year, this will soon become a popular diamond trade show with participants from around the globe.
