I am very new to the diamond industry, and I found out with each and every diamond there is so much to be learned. No two diamonds are alike, and you really have to become knowledgeable about each and every little aspect concerning a diamond.
The GIA, the Gemological Institute of America, is considered the most advanced diamond grading laboratory; however the AGS, the American Gemological Society, is using the informative edge on their diamond grading process to become a worthy competitor. These two certifiers are important to keep in mind if you want a legitimately certified diamond.
A simple brochure that is designed to walk all types of diamond buyers through the techniques and steps that the AGS uses to certify its diamonds is called High-Performance Diamonds 101, Your Guide to the AGS Cut Grade. I found this very helpful, as well as informative to the overall process.
The AGS is a renowned diamond grading laboratory that recently added the Emerald cut diamond to its collection of diamonds that they certify. Emerald cut diamonds are a diamond cut that is rectangular in shape, but instead of many facets, the Emerald cut diamond features larger facets, around 7-11; which means that this diamond is recommended to be purchased with a high color grading as well as little imperfections.
The AGS laboratory may not have the most advanced technologies in grading diamonds like the GIA, but their new brochure and recent addition of the Emerald Cut diamond will definitely improve their stance in the diamond industry. But overall I would recommend either certifier , because they are both reputable companies. Just do your homework!

How do you feel about IGI or EGL? I know GIA is very well known but what about other laboratories in the US and around the world?
