There are quite a few diamond cuts to choose from and with each diamond cut comes different characteristics. Most diamond cuts utilize many facets so that the stone is brilliant and has a lot of fire, but there are two choices in diamond cuts that use larger facets, or step cuts, to draw the eye into the stone.
The Emerald cut diamond and the Asscher cut diamond are two diamond cuts that are very unique and utterly breathtaking. These two diamond cuts do not have fire in mind, but instead craftsmanship and beauty. The Emerald cut diamond has very few facets with the Asscher cut diamond only having a little more. Both the Emerald cut diamond and the Asscher cut diamond are square in shape with tapered corners, with the latter being more boxlike whereas the Emerald is more elongated.
Because of the technique that is used with Emerald cut diamonds and Asscher cut diamonds, the diamond size is very important. These diamond cuts do not do well with smaller carat weights due to the nature of their cut. The diamond size that is recommended for both of these diamonds cuts is above a carat. Next to the diamond size, the clarity of the diamond is also very important with these cuts as well. As stated before, since they are not cut to be very brilliant (although they do show large flashes of brilliance) the diamond should have few inclusions for if the diamond is very included it will show more prominently.
Although there are strict recommendations towards what should be paid close attention to when choosing either the Emerald cut diamond or the Asscher cut diamond, it is definitely worth it.
