the-one.pngThe overall worth of the diamond may vary, depending on what country you are in. If America equates diamonds with love and marriage, then how about Italy, other parts of Europe, and Mexico?Signet rings, or seal rings, are very popular in Europe. They would usually bear the seals or coat of arms. They can also be laden with diamonds. These seal rings are meant to denote the nobility of a person in medieval Europe. In other countries, such as in Egypt, men and women wear their signets on their neck to signify that they are of higher authority than the others.

If you happen to be in Italy, then you definitely know that diamonds definitely stand for love and passion. It was actually the Italians who first saw the relevance between love and the fiery brilliance of the diamonds. Thus, it’s no wonder that they are also perfect betrothal gifts for so many years. The introduction of the diamond engagement ring, however, didn’t happen until the fifteenth century, when Mary of Burgundy started sporting one to mark her engagement to Austria’s Duke Maximilian. This is because Italians believed that the diamond will break the perfect circle of the ring, and hence, a couple may experience years of bad luck and even broken marriage.

In Mexico, there’s a new interesting diamond tradition that is being practiced. Mexicans have high regard for the dead, and hence, they would usually transform these dead bodies into ashes so they will be able to keep them. A new company, Algordanza, however, introduced a new method of creating a lasting token of a person’s memory: they can turn their ashes into diamonds. These synthetic diamonds are made from the loved one’s ashes, so that the loved one can be kept and their beauty admired forever.
