It is not often that men propose to their girlfriends without any plan or thought or without an engagement ring. However, this seems to be exactly what Jake Owen did while performing at his alma mater. It appears as though Jake Owen, in the middle of performing his song “Don’t think I can’t love you”, decided to call his girlfriend Lacey Buchanan on to the stage and propose to her, despite not having an engagement ring at hand. The proposal from Jake Owen was preceded by a romantic dance between the couple and ended with him singing the last of the song to his now fiancé. In fact, one of the most notable aspects of the proposal was Jake Owen explaining to Lacey Buchanan that he did not have an engagement ring which was caught by the stage mikes for the audience.
While it has become the norm in these modern times for men to think about their decision to propose for a long time beforehand before spending another extended period of time planning their proposals, Jake Owen bucked the trend. The only reason that comes to mind is that he, at some point during his song, realized his love for his girlfriend all over again and could not wait any longer.
Needless to say, the spontaneous decision to just take the plunge on the back of intense emotion surprised not only the audience but also Jake Owen’s family, friends and, most importantly, girlfriend. The spontaneous decision, however, did not go unrewarded because Lacey Buchanan, as is obvious, said ‘Yes’.
The fans from the audience who heard the whole proposal and were witnesses were themselves impressed at the impromptu nature of the proposal. According to one person who was in the audience, Jake Owen during his proposal to Lacey Buchanan told her that he had thrown his graduation hat up in the air on the fifty yard line nearby, and with his friends and family nearby he figured that this was the best moment to propose to her. In a nut shell, most fans commented on the fact that the whole proposal seemed unplanned and spontaneous which seemed to have just increased its charm for Lacey Buchanan.
Jake Owen has been walking on air since his engagement to Lacey Buchanan, if his Twitter update is anything to go by. Keeping it simple, short and sweet, Jake Owen on his Twitter account said that he is a happy man and that his life is complete. Jake Owen and Lacey Buchanan reportedly met on the set of the music video for his hit song “Eight Second Ride”. Moreover, Lacey Buchanan also appeared in another of Jake Owen’s videos “Barefoot Blue Jean Night”.
The concert, during which Jake Owen proposed, was held at the Citrus Bowl at Vero Beach High, which, as mentioned earlier, is Jake Owen’s alma mater. The following day of the proposal, Jake Owen told the media through a press release that Lacey Buchanan is an “amazing” person and he is the “luckiest” guy in the world.
