Everyone knows that when you want to see the latest and greatest in terms of fashion and fashion accessories, you can turn to Hollywood to see what’s “in” right now. Well of course, the same can be said about jewelry. The stars and starlets always want to be seen wearing the most beautiful gems.
You can find the Misters and Misses of Hollywood sporting their favorite pieces of jewelry all of the time. Movie premieres and publicity events sure, but also when they are just out and about town. However, if you really want to see some sparkly goodness, then wait for awards shows.
When the stars come out for awards, regardless of which award, they bring on the bling. Along with the great tuxedos and suits, you will see breathtakingly beautiful dresses and gowns. You can bet that if Tom Cruise or Katherine Heigl, or anyone else in Tinseltown for that matter, comes out dressed to the nines, they will have accessories that are just as glamorous.
On the men, you may find traditional accessories, such as diamond cuff links. But, in this day and age, you could be just as likely to see diamonds encrusted on a pair of sunglasses, like the ones Jamie Foxx wore to the Oscars back in 2005. It is just as likely that you will see some of Hollywood’s leading men showing off diamond rings, diamond bracelets and diamond watches worth thousands, and hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Many times, the diamonds that men adorn can be just as valuable, if not more so, than the diamonds that their women counterparts wear. Such as the case is Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, who notoriously wears jewelry, specifically diamonds, with price values in the hundreds of thousands.
Having said all that, women still generally hold the price for most valued jewels at an awards show. This past Academy Awards show is testament to that. Anne Hathaway wore diamond earrings that were 10-carat cushion cut drop earrings by Harry Winston, valued at one million dollars. Yes, you heard right. That was one million dollars! Other notable diamond earrings were the ones worn by Jessica Alba that were valued at over $90,000, Jennifer Garner’s 13-carat Swan Lake diamond drop earrings and the Chopard diamond drop earrings worn by Marlee Matlin that were 15 carats worth of pear and marquis shaped diamonds.
Earrings were not the only pieces of exquisite jewelry that were noticed that night. Bracelets were a big hit with many of the lovely ladies. You know those 15-carat earrings that Marlee Matlin had on? Well she also accessorized her outfit with a bold, 39-carat fancy shape diamond bracelet. 39 carats, that is a fantastic bracelet! Jennifer Garner’s 13-carat earrings were accompanied by a vintage, 1925 art deco diamond bracelet that weighed in at a whopping 30 carats.
Necklaces usually made a big, dramatic statement. Diamond necklaces can add elegance and class to any neckline, any outfit. They can also make your look a little fun and little spunky, depending on the style of the outfit and the type of necklace. The necklaces that were around some of the most beautiful necks in Hollywood on the night of the Oscars this year can only be described as astounding and stunning.
In keeping with the art deco theme, Jennifer Garner’s necklace was a 61 carat, 1928 art deco necklace by Van Cleef & Arpels. Keri Russell wore an amazing vintage floral diamond necklace, made by H. Stern and comprised of 405 marquis cut diamonds weighing more than 46 carats. Marion Cotillard decided to make a statement by wearing not one, but two fabulous necklaces, both of which were made by Chopard. One was a 64-carat champagne diamond briolette necklace and the other was a 106-carat light brown and dark brown diamond necklace. The champagne and brown colored diamond looked simply amazing when paired together.
When talking about the necklaces that one saw at the Oscars that night, once just cannot go without mentioning Nicole Kidman and her necklace. The lovely Ms. Kidman, sporting an adorable baby bump, was sparkling to say the least. She was wearing a diamond sautoir necklace made by L’Wren Scott. This outstanding piece of jewelry was made with both polished and rough diamonds. There were an astronomical 7,645 faceted, polished and rough diamonds in that baby! With a weight of 1,399 carats (no that is not a typo, the necklace weighed just under 1,400 carats) to say that the necklace was “eye-catching” is a major understatement!
After seeing all of the glitter and glam at the awards, you realize that the reason there are so many diamonds being flaunted, rather than other colored gems, is because you never have to worry about trends changing and diamonds going out of style.
