According to Michael O’Connor, the engagement ring is typified by a huge pear shaped diamond set in platinum. He further specified that the engagement ring’s design was inspired by traditional “glamour and individuality”, which, he says, is perfect for a diehard rocker like Avril Lavigne. The center stone of the engagement ring is surrounded by a number of half moon diamonds which were specially cut to complement the central diamond’s beauty. The total carat value of the engagement ring is pegged to be 14 carats. Of these 14 carats, the central diamond accounts for 10 carats while the half moon diamonds on the side total 4 carats. Needless to say, the size and value of the engagement ring has many women fans of Lavigne swooning with wonder.
The announcement of the engagement between Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger was a surprise for most of their fans as their relationship was not common knowledge. Even so, after six months of courtship, Chad Kroeger decided to pop the question and Avril gladly accepted.

Avril Lavigne is 27 years old while Chad Kroeger, the lead vocalist and guitarist for Nickleback, is ten years her senior at 37. Lavigne was married once before in her life to Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 for a period of three years.
