“Let me just say, my jewelry is worth more than I am.”Connie Britton, 2013 Emmy Awards red carpet

The movies have the Oscars. For music, there are the Grammy Awards and the Country Music Awards. And for television, there are the Emmys – the one night a year everyone who is anyone in the business shows up looking their best to salute everything great about their industry.

But the Emmys have a little something extra going for them; every year the red carpet at the Emmy Awards signals the start of the fall fashion season. The transition into the new phase of jewelry and fashion began last night, with glamorous yet subdued results.

Unlike the Grammys, there were no Lady Gagas or Miley Cyruses here to shock and awe with over the top style. At the Emmys, the mood was more conservative and adult. But don’t think that means the red carpet was a snoozefest – far from it – it just showed that in the tv industry, it was more about class and beauty than wild abandon. Continue reading »

If you don’t know the name Kendra Spears, you probably know her look. Over the last five years she has modeled for Gucci, Calvin Klein, Christian Dior, Prada, Etro, and Diana von Furstenberg, and secured her place as one of the worlds top supermodels.

If you do know her name, you might be surprised to hear that it has changed. After her Labor Day wedding, she stopped being Kendra Spears, and became Princess Salwa Aga Khan.

She became a real-life princess! When she married Prince Rahim Aga Khan, she became part of an esteemed, important family. His Highness Aga Khan, the patriarch, is an imam presiding over Nizari Ismail, a denomination of the Shia Muslim faith

Just because someone is a “commoner” doesn’t mean there is anything common about them. Kendra wasn’t the first to make the leap from commoner to royalty. Continue reading »

You can forget the Oscars. You can keep the Emmys. And the Grammys? What are they? For all the hottest celebs wearing the trendiest, most “now” fashions, its all about the VMAs.

MTV started the Video Music Awards in 1984, and it quickly became known as a night where anything can happen. The first VMA set trend thanks to a  notorious performance by Madonna that saw her stripping off a wedding gown while crooning “Like a Virgin.”

This year was no different – fab styles, over the top personalities and a little controversy to get tongues wagging. Continue reading »

Last week Michelle Obama became the first sitting First Lady to ever star in a hip hop video. It was done to promote Songs for a Healthier America, part of her ongoing campaign against obesity.

Of course, Mrs. Obama is such a touchstone of culture and fashion that her video appearance was overshadowed by the fact that she had cut her bangs. No, Michelle, not the bangs!!!

It is not customary for the First Lady of the United States to be a fashion template. Each tends to bring in their own unique style, and they tend to be conservative in dress even if not in politics (we’re looking at you, Hilary). But Michelle Obama is one of a kind, and has transformed the way Americans look at the White House.

Fierce, feisty, and fabulous – that’s Michelle in a nutshell. Continue reading »

Katy_Perry_ConcertSo much happens in a month, it’s hard to keep up! Here are a handful of the best, most interesting, tasty, and juicy bits of celebrity news from the last month.

Katy and John… and Robert and Kristen

It wasn’t long ago Katy Perry was flashing a heart-shaped ruby ring given to her by crooner and on-again, off-again love interest John Mayer, but recently she has been seen in public with actor Robert Pattinson, leading to a firestorm of speculation.
