The first Academy Awards ceremony took place on May 16, 1929 honoring the best films of 1927 and 1928. Only 270 people attended and the ceremony lasted nearly 15 minutes, very different from what it is today. Now, people from all over the world gather for this big event, whether at the location itself or to watch it from their couches at home. The Academy Awards have become one of the most popular events in history; a time to honor the men and women who have touched us through motion pictures. We have tough choices ahead of us this year with excellent nominations from each category; however, one must triumph above the others and claim their coveted prize – the Oscar. Hollywood gossip was through the roof on the night of the 2013 Grammy’s; the juiciest bit being the news of Rihanna and Chris Brown. With Rihanna in her stylish red gown with a see-through top and Chris in his snazzy white suit, the back and forth couple gave everyone on the red carpet a run for their money. If her dress wasn’t scandalous enough for the red carpet event, showing up with the boyfriend who was arrested for beating her in 2009 sure was. Singer Brandy Norwood can now stop hinting about a ring. Her fiancée, Ryan Press, has finally obliged giving the entertainer more than just a “bubble gum ring” that she hinted she would accept from him in a heartbeat. The couple was vacationing in Hawaii when she posted a picture showing off her large diamond engagement ring on Instagram.
