Diamonds have a reputation as being the perfect way to say I love you, referred to as being “a girl’s best friend” and a symbol of eternity. This is a belief held by romantics all over the world, and the diamond is by far the most commonly used stone in engagement rings. If diamonds are the most precious stone, however, then pink diamonds are in a class of their own. When you add a rare pink diamond, engagement rings truly become amazing symbols of an undying affection.

The pink diamond is the rarest of the diamonds. In fact, less than one percent of the diamonds in the world are pink. Of this one percent, many are lightly colored, and only a few are the vibrant, rich pinks that make up the rarest of this elusive group of stones. Pink diamonds have been known to exist for many years, but until they suddenly grew in popularity, they were largely undesired. After the popularity boom of the rare pink diamond, engagement rings everywhere started to sport the beautiful stone.

Perhaps the most famous celebrity ring to sport a pink diamond was the 6 carat ring briefly exchanged by Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez. While the engagement was short lived, the ring set off a whirlwind of replicas, and quickly became the most popular ring of this generation. Brilliantly colored and shining a rich and dazzling pink, the ring was truly one of a kind. After the world got a look at this stunning rare pink diamond, engagement rings everywhere began to take on more color, leading many away from the traditional white diamond trend.

While white diamonds are without doubt still the most commonly purchased diamonds, pink diamonds are highly sought after. In addition to standard methods of valuing diamonds, pink diamonds are also valued by the intensity of their color. Bolder, darker diamonds carry a higher price per carat than diamonds with only a light touch of pink in their color. A majority of mines produce only these lighter pink diamonds, and it is predominantly the Argyle mine in Australia that produces the deep, hot pink diamonds that many diamond connoisseurs actively seek.

While perhaps the most famous instance of rare pink diamonds engagement rings is the ring sported by Jennifer Lopez, she is certainly not the only celebrity to sport these brilliant jewels. Actress Salma Hayek wore an intense pink diamond to the Academy Awards that weighed in at a stunning 6.17 carats. At the 2004 Oscar show, Vivica A. Fox showed up in a pink diamond dress designed by Randi Rahm. She paired the dress elegantly with a pink flower ring and stunning pink and yellow diamond earrings.

Many celebrities in recent years have been spotted wearing pink diamonds. A beautiful accessory that can make any outfit a classic, these diamonds are truly breathtaking. They also serve as a sign of elegance due in part to their rarity. Because they are so hard to find, these diamonds are truly considered to be a rare treasure.

While rare pink diamond engagement rings are a somewhat new occurrence among the famous and elite, the first recorded instance of a “celebrity” use of the diamonds is actually traced back to the year 1526. It was in this year that the Rajah of Agra has his life spared by the very first Emperor of the Mohgul people, Babur. When the son of Babur captured Agra, the life of the Rajah was spared. As a sign of thanks, the Rajah presented Babur with the stunning Agra diamond. It was worn by Babur in his turban for many, many years. At the time, the Agra diamond weighed 32.34 carats. It has changed hands many times and has a remarkable and storied history, making it by far the most famous pink diamond in history. Today the diamond is owned by the SIBA Corporation in Hong Kong and has been recut to a weight of 28.15 carats. The diamond sold to the corporation for $6.9 million.

When it comes to the rare pink diamond, engagement rings, necklaces, and many other pieces of jewelry are made much more exquisite with the addition of the gem. These rare pieces are among the most remarkable gems in the entire world, and many collectors actively seek out only the finest pink diamonds. These diamonds are considered a treasure among many collectors, and prices for the darkest colored diamonds can quickly extend into the millions of dollars. While the Hollywood trend of rare pink diamond engagement rings may have been started by the engagement of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, true collectors have long been aware of the remarkable value and rarity of these beautiful gems. It is this rarity and beauty that lead many people to see them as the ultimate sign of love and devotion when looking for the perfect stone for a custom engagement ring.
