243604016_076ff590d0.jpgAlmost every engagement has at least one thing in common. While each engagement will, obviously, have its own unique features, one of the most common factors of almost every engagement is the presentation of an engagement ring. Also common in this tradition of the engagement ring is for the engagement ring to hold a gem of some kind. Most of us think of the diamond as the gem of choice for the engagement ring, and this is not without reason. The gem stone, diamond, is by far the most popular gem for use in the engagement ring. However, while the diamond is the most popular gem for the engagement ring, it is not the only gem that is used for the engagement ring.

The gem, diamond, is a popular choice for the engagement ring due to its incredible durability and scintillating light display. However, the gem stone emerald is also a popular gem for use in such jewelry as the engagement ring. The emerald is not going to achieve the level of popularity that is found in the gem stone diamond, at least not in terms of use in the engagement ring, but the emerald is seen by many as a beautiful and arresting alternative. With its stunning, green color, and its long faceted planes, the emerald emits a deep, rich, green glow of light that draws the eye into its warmly luminous center. An engagement ring that features the gem stone emerald sends a message of more than a lasting bond of love and commitment; it sends a message of a beautiful exterior bond that is fed by a glowing, luminescent interior of commitment and affection.

Another incredible gem that is chosen by many for use in the engagement ring is the sapphire. One of the greatest draws of the sapphire as a gem stone for the engagement ring is found in the sharp display of scintillating light within and without the sapphire. Yet for many, this is not the primary appeal of the sapphire as a gem for an engagement ring. Most people are drawn to the gem stone sapphire because of the many different colors that the sapphire can come in. One can find sapphires of pink, blue, yellow, and green amongst other colors. It is the ability to choose a specific color of a gorgeous, scintillating gem that makes the sapphire so appealing to so many people in their choice for an engagement ring.

There are many other gem stones that one could choose from when looking into a gem stone for one’s engagement ring. This is not to say that the traditional choice of a diamond engagement ring is a poor choice. In fact, it is the astounding attributes of the gem stone diamond, such as its unparalleled scintillation and fire, which set it apart as such an ideal choice for the engagement ring. That being said, it does not mean that the diamond is the right gem for everyone in regards to the engagement ring.

Gaining an understanding and appreciation for the many different gem stones that are available today can guarantee that the engagement ring that you choose has the gem stone that works best for you. For example, there are some for whom the beautiful, deep red of the scintillating gem stone known as the ruby, is the perfect choice for their engagement ring. For others, a veined, multi-colored opal may be the visually complex type of gem that they are looking for in a gem stone for their engagement ring. No matter what your taste, with a little effort and research, you will find that there is a gem stone available that is the perfect gem stone for you and your engagement ring.
