321211_diamond_ring.jpgThe many different resources that are available in today’s society have caused diamond engagement rings to become bigger and bolder. In the past, diamond engagement rings that were around four carats were considered “the ring of love” but today it is not uncommon to find woman with not only larger diamond engagement rings than four carats, but also with huge diamonds that are certified with outstanding marks.

Any person that is considering upgrading an engagement needs to be armed with this information first; certified diamonds are the only way to go. A certified diamond is a diamond that is graded on the diamond cut (not the shape of the diamond but the actual proportions and symmetry), the color of the diamond, the clarity of the diamond, and the carat weight of the diamond. While there are three main diamonds grading laboratories that certify diamonds which are the GIA, EGL, and AGS. Each one of these diamond grading laboratories provide the same services and it is possible to find jewelers that carry certified diamonds from each one of these laboratories, especially when looking online.

When a diamond engagement ring is upgraded there are two choices for the setting. The first choice is using the original setting (check with your jeweler to make sure the diamond shape that is chosen will fit the head of the setting) and the second choice is to choose a completely new engagement ring setting. When it comes to new engagement ring settings, there are a lot of choices to choose from. The solitaire engagement ring setting is still available, but since woman today want rings with personality it is recommended to shop a jeweler that has an expansive selection of engagement ring settings that will provide the perfect setting to be found to match the woman’s personality. If the choices are too broad and hard to decide, don’t be afraid to ask for assistance from a diamond specialist.

Once the upgraded engagement ring is created and in your custody, get the ring insured. As stated before, engagement rings today are sometimes of a magnitude of large proportions to where a lot of money was spent which means insuring the engagement ring a must. There are also RFID tags available that can be placed on the ring so that should anything happen, it can be located.
