This is not always possible, but if you have to option to view loose diamonds, there are a few things that you should keep in mind to get the best possible view.

First, you want to make sure that the diamond has been thought cleaned. Many people just assume that if a loose diamond is in a jewelry store that it is going to be clean, but this is not always the case. The jewelry store may be having a busy day and did not have time to clean the diamond after the last customer looked at it.

You also want to make sure that you hold the diamond with tweezers to prevent the oils from your hands from getting on the loose diamond. This could affect the appearance of the diamond. If this is not possible you should hold the diamond by the girdle (the line where the top meets the bottom).

Lastly, make sure that you are viewing the diamond in good light such as incandescent lighting or natural light. Fluorescent lighting will make the diamond appear to be very dull and it will not have the same brilliance and fire that it would under a good light source.

You want to make sure that you have looked at all of the aspects of a loose diamond before you make your final purchase.
