Diamonds are beautiful. They’re a girl’s best friend. They are forever. What these slogans about diamonds fail to mention is that diamonds are expensive, very expensive.
It is indeed very hard to shop for a diamond, especially if you are on a very tight budget. But it can be done. All you need is a little knowledge about diamonds in general and the diamond industry in particular to get the most sparkle for your buck.
The problem with buying diamonds while being on a tight budget is that sometimes you end up sacrificing one or more aspects of a diamond. There are ways though to buy a high quality diamond without necessarily breaking the bank.
The first thing that you should do before you begin to shop for a diamond is to determine your budget. This is a task that you must perform because only you can determine the amount that you’ll find comfortable. Also, setting a budget would minimize the likelihood that you would get carried away when buying diamonds.
It is also important that you educate yourself about the 4Cs of a diamond. The 4Cs refer to carat weight, color, clarity and cut. All of these attributes affect the general value of a diamond. Decide which of these attributes you value most so you’d know what to look for when you start diamond shopping. It is a wise decision though to strive to look for a diamond that rate high on all of the 4Cs.
Of course, everybody wants to purchase a large diamond if possible. But buyers should remember size in a diamond rarely equates to beauty. When buying a diamond, be sure that you are not compromising the other aspects of it over size.
As a general rule: the more inclusions in a diamond, the lesser its value. But most blemishes and inclusions are not visible to the naked eye.
