Sprucing Up The Solitaire Diamond Engagement Ring
Marriage is a traditional institution and many couples opt for the traditional proposal and solitaire diamond engagement ring. However, just because one wants to be traditional doesn't mean your solitaire has to look like everyone else's diamond ring. Jewelers are giving their customers many different options for ring settings to help spruce up the old design without losing its traditional flavor.
By using ring settings that are newer like tension settings instead of the four or six-pronged setting, the diamond solitaire can be upgraded to a more modern look. Bezel settings, in particular, are found to work well with modern lifestyles with their streamlined look and functionality. Whereas a prong setting may make it easier to lose the diamond if the person is athletic and active, the bezel setting surrounds or partially surrounds the stone making it less exposed.
The bands for the solitaire can also play a part in the design element. Some people engrave messages; others engrave flowers or nature motifs. Still others try to add a little of their heritage with wide bands and Celtic knots. Some jewelers offer twisted bands. Others use pave or channel-set diamonds on the band to complement the larger solitaire. People have become very creative with their ring settings sometimes even choosing platinum instead of the traditional gold, while maintaining a nod to history with the solitaire diamond.
When choosing a traditional solitaire diamond, one doesn't have to keep to a prong setting. By customizing the ring settings one can give a nod to tradition while streamlining the design to more personal tastes.
