Default Looking for engagement advice

Hi everyone--

I'm looking for some advice on what kind of engagement band to buy. I'd like to get something affordable (I'm a hair stylist saving up to open my own salon) that's still timeless. I'd hate to splurge on something that's supposed to be a symbol of permanence only to have it fall out of fashion after a few seasons. I could always go with the classic round brilliant design, but I want my (providing-she-says-yes!) fiancee to have something unique. I'm a bit chary about heart-shaped diamonds-- they seem like something more for upper-crust Sweet Sixteen party than a proper engagement. I like Marquise diamonds, but I feel as though I've seen too many of those in the settings of my grandmother. My fiancee is 22 and a pastry chef, so I want something a bit hip but still classic. Her name is Stephanie and she's fascinated by anime and Teutonic culture. I'm leaning toward the square-cut symmetry of a princess-cut diamond, but I'm open to any suggestions anyone might have. I have no clue what's going on in modern wedding culture. If anyone could let me know, please do. I'd love to chat.

What about the emerald or asscher cuts? The step cuts would give an edgy twist to it and you could always do a solitaire setting which will never go out of style!

Go for the princess cut. It just looks amazing when teamed up with white or yellow gold. Since you cannot afford a heavy duty ring, it would be a best choice as it is less expensive compared to the round solitaire. All the best.
